Casement Windows
The whole opening, open
A casement window is hinged at the side and swings outward, so the full opening becomes usable ventilation — nothing catches the breeze better. Casements also give the cleanest sightline of any operable window: no meeting rail across the middle, no track at the sill. When closed, the sash compresses against a continuous gasket and locks at multiple points up the frame, which is why casements consistently perform well for both weather-tightness and security.
